Kon Dimpoulos is realising his Blue Trees artwork in the Canadian city of Richmond for opening on 7 April.
The installation, previously shown in Melbourne, Australia in 2006, is intended to alter the viewer's perception of trees – a resource we depend upon for survival but often take for granted. The trees are coloured with a bright blue pigment that will naturally fade over a period of weeks.
From the artist:
"The Blue Trees is an ephemeral work, reverting back to its original state over time. An afforestation art action set within an urban context – it is the response of cities such as Richmond, Canada to issues relating to deforestation that in the end will determine the sustainability of this resource, both locally and globally."
