The Mater Mothers’ Hospitals are among Australia’s premier maternity facilities. A renovation and expansion was completed in June 2008, including a broad art program of 2 and 3-dimensional works. UAP worked with Positive Solutions’ curator Renai Grace to commission and deliver several architecturally integrated artworks.

Mater recognised art as fundamental to an environment that fosters wellness during a patient’s hospital stay. The artworks in this program were collectively based on themes of welcoming, calmness, life, family and community. They also drew inspiration from the Sisters of Mercy and their ethos of dignity and compassion in health care.

The installations span a broad spectrum of function and scale including the building’s atrium, concourse, lift lobbies, chapel, donor boards and children’s playscape.
