Resurgent is about reproduction, multiplicity, pattern, new growth and renewal. Sited in a transition zone on the edge of a hotel and parkland, it links visitors to Cairns Harbour, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.

The work considers both nature and the built form - wrapping a concrete wall in a perforated sheath. An organic pattern created from spawning coral, a significant biological event on the reef, accentuates the linear movement and feel.

The weathered steel provides a strong contrast with the existing architectural palate and extends past the building edge inviting the viewer to investigate further. At night, lighting creates a subtle illumination and glow, activating the connection after dark.
