As part of UAP's commitment to promote Indigenous Artists, our studio has teamed with Toga and Positive Solutions to implement a series of week long workshops in which Indigenous craftsmen- painters, weavers, jewellers' are invited to design their work in cast metal. These workshops are part of an extended commitment to provide training and the necessary skills to artists so they may create work suitable for the public realm. Throughout a five day studio session, UAP pattern makers work alongside an artist to produce a plasticine mould. From there, it is cast in bronze or aluminium as an editioned artwork (typically a series of 12) and sold through galleries and art centres. Profits are shared among all parties. Previously, UAP has worked with Indigenous artists from Aurukun, Maningrida and the Torres Strait with a recent work, Ubirikubiri by Dennis Nona winning the Telstra Art Award 2007, a celebrated Indigenous Art Award.
